IGP, Savannah Regional Minister visit Gbindabuor as 36 suspects assist police investigations

Salisu Be-Awuribe, the Savannah Regional Minister, and Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the Inspector-General of Police, visited Gbindabuor in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District following a tragic incident. The lynching of a police officer in the community had taken place, prompting the visit to assess the security situation and gather firsthand information.

The lynching occurred on September 16, 2026, resulting in the death of General Constable Redeemer Owusu. Prior to their visit, Be-Awuribe and Yohuno held an exclusive meeting with the Regional Security Council and the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Security Committee to discuss the security situation in the community and strategies to maintain peace.

Be-Awuribe expressed his concern over the incident, stating that it was disturbing and inconsistent with the peaceful nature of the region's people. He vowed that the Regional Coordinating Council would provide necessary support to investigative bodies to ensure thorough investigations into the incident. Be-Awuribe emphasized that anyone found culpable would face the full rigors of the law and warned residents against engaging in mob justice, reprisal attacks, and further violence.

He urged residents to cooperate with security agencies to maintain peace and security in the area, urging security personnel to exercise maximum professionalism and respect the rule of law in their duties.

Yohuno expressed disappointment over the tragic circumstances leading to the officer's lynching, describing it as a painful reminder of the dangers faced by police officers in the line of duty. He announced that General Constable Owusu would be posthumously promoted to a higher rank in recognition of his service and sacrifice. Yohuno encouraged police personnel in the area to remain committed to their duties despite the tragedy.

At present, security remains tight in Gbindabuor as investigations continue, with 36 suspects currently in police custody assisting the police in their investigations.
