Hurricane Polo expected to reach Category 5 as it nears Mexico’s Pacific coast

Hurricane Polo, currently a Category 1 storm, is on track to strengthen into a Category 5 hurricane as it approaches Mexico's Pacific coast. The Civil Protection agency has advised residents in several states to stay vigilant and heed safety guidelines. The U.S. National Hurricane Center predicts that Polo could deliver heavy rainfall, strong surf, and tropical-storm-force winds to the country this week. By Wednesday, the hurricane could intensify to a Category 5 storm near the coast of Michoacán.

Polo, located approximately 410 kilometers southwest of Manzanillo and 322 kilometers south-southeast of Zihuatanejo, has been generating intense rain and rough seas. The National Meteorological Service of Mexico predicts that the storm will cause heavy rainfall in Oaxaca and Guerrero, very heavy rainfall in Michoacán, and heavy rainfall in coastal Jalisco and Colima. Coastal regions in these states can also anticipate waves ranging from 1 to 3 meters.

Authorities have urged the public to stay informed about warnings issued by Mexico's National Meteorological Service and to follow Civil Protection recommendations. The storm's trajectory is expected to be unpredictable, veering parallel to the coastlines of Colima, Michoacán, and Guerrero. Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Odalys is forecast to become a hurricane by mid-week as it remains over 2,000 kilometers west-southwest of Mexico's Baja California peninsula.
