GES warns SHS heads against unauthorised charges for school items

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a warning to heads of Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs) against imposing unauthorized charges on parents and guardians for school items. This directive emerged following complaints from GES Management about heads of schools pressuring parents to pay extra fees and buy specific items directly from their schools, such as trunks, chop boxes, uniforms, cutlasses, and other necessary student requirements.

The Service has instructed all SHS and SHTS heads to immediately cease this practice and adhere strictly to the approved guidelines for admitting both new and continuing students. Any school found to be charging parents for items outside of the approved list will face serious administrative penalties, as per the Service's regulations.

Additionally, Regional Directors of Education have been tasked with ensuring that this directive reaches all education authorities in their regions, so these schools can comply with the new rules. The GES is urging school administrators to follow the approved procedures and refrain from creating additional financial burdens on parents and guardians.
