Premier League teams have kicked off their season with varying levels of success in their opening five matches. Arsenal, in 7th place, have made a solid start but faced a 3-0 defeat at Brighton, which exposed some weaknesses. Aston Villa, in 6th place, have shown signs of improvement after losing key players during the transfer window, winning their away match at Tottenham.

Brentford, in 8th place, have enjoyed an impressive unbeaten start, defeating both Tottenham and Chelsea. Brighton, in 9th place, have been entertaining with 16 goals in their first five matches, including a 3-0 victory over Arsenal. Chelsea, also in 6th, began strongly but have now lost two of their past three matches after a heavy defeat by Brentford.

Coventry City, in 6th, ended a difficult run with a 1-0 victory at Nottingham Forest. Crystal Palace, in 5th, have struggled with one win and three defeats so far. Everton, in 6th, have shown resilience despite a difficult transfer window. Fulham, in 5th, have picked up useful draws against Liverpool and Manchester United but are still searching for their first victory.

Hull City, in 8th, have made an excellent start with eight points from five matches, including victories over Manchester United and draws against Aston Villa and Chelsea. Ipswich Town, in 5th, have demonstrated fighting spirit with late winners against Sunderland and Crystal Palace. Leeds United, in 5th, have made an unbeaten start and have one of the league's best defensive records.

Liverpool, in 6th, remain unbeaten but have yet to reach their best form. Manchester City, in 1st place, have made a perfect start with five wins, including a 10-man match against Manchester United. Manchester United, in 5th, have endured a disappointing opening with two defeats and only one win. Newcastle United, in 6th, have produced mixed results under new manager Matthias Jaissle.

Nottingham Forest, in 5th, have had better results away from home but their home record is a concern. Sunderland, in 5th, have competed well against top teams but lost both games in their opening matches. Tottenham Hotspur, in 2nd place, have had the most difficult start, failing to score in their first four league matches despite spending over £300 million during the summer.
