From M’sia to Switzerland, Cai Cai finds her happy ending

Melanie Dehnert and her family relocated to Switzerland this year, bringing along Cai Cai, a rescue dog originally from Malaysia. Cai Cai's transformation from a street stray to a beloved family pet has been documented on Melanie's Instagram page, "Pawsitive Cai Cai." The rescue's journey began with a post from animal rescuer Shan, who found Cai Cai as a puppy on the streets of Kapar, nursed her back to health and then found her a permanent home.

With her golden eyes, beige coat, and pointy ears, Cai Cai quickly caught Melanie's attention. Since 2024, Melanie has shared Cai Cai's growth from a shy puppy to a much-loved family dog and her move from Malaysia to Switzerland. Cai Cai has developed a quirky habit of peeing in lakes, which has become one of her favorite pastimes.

Initially shy and skeptical, Cai Cai slowly became more confident and trusting with Melanie's patience and love. When the family moved to Switzerland, Melanie ensured Cai Cai was crate-trained and worked with a dog trainer and pet communicator to ease her stress during the overseas journey. Cai Cai traveled from Malaysia to Germany, then to Switzerland, a journey taking about 24 hours.

Once in Switzerland, Cai Cai discovered the joys of off-leash walks, wide open spaces, and her newfound love for peeing in lakes. Melanie hopes her Instagram page will show that rescue dogs can be wonderful family pets and live their best lives alongside their human families.
