Formula One races to be shortened next season

The FIA and Formula One have decided to shorten the duration of upcoming Grand Prix races in a move tied to earlier fuel flow reductions in engines. During a meeting in London, the FIA's Formula One Commission announced the changes for the next season. They plan to reduce race lengths from 305km to 290km, which equates to a reduction of two or three laps per race.

The FIA and Formula One jointly revealed that this reduction was an unavoidable outcome following their decision to lower fuel flow in engines. Additionally, they canceled plans to standardize gearboxes across all cars, preserving supplier development freedom. The commission also adjusted the rules concerning the fixed three-hour race limit, impacted by rain interruptions, to ensure spectators can enjoy a full race even if disruptions occur.

The FIA statement further mentioned that the commission has made changes to this season's sporting and financial regulations but did not provide further details.
