eKYC providers update systems for new-generation MyKad

PUTRAJAYA: Electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) service providers are revamping their systems to facilitate the recognition of the new-generation MyKad's design and features during identity verification, according to the National Registration Department (NRD). The enhancements in the new-gen MyKad, issued from September 17, include structural, design, technological, and security upgrades aimed at bolstering identity protection.

Several agencies and eKYC service providers have been engaging with relevant parties to tackle the challenges faced by some new-gen MyKad holders during the identity verification process through eKYC systems. The NRD has furnished relevant details and is keeping a close eye on the implementation of the system updates to streamline the transition process.

Until the updates are fully rolled out, the NRD has advised users encountering difficulties with eKYC verification using the new-gen MyKad to reach out to their respective institutions or service providers for alternative verification methods. The NRD emphasizes that the adaptation of eKYC systems by service providers is a crucial step in supporting the new card's usage.

The department remains committed to monitoring the system update process and collaborating with relevant agencies and service providers until the adaptation is complete. Ensuring a smooth transition to the new-generation MyKad, without compromising public convenience in accessing services that require identity verification, is the NRD's top priority.
