Egypt’s El-Sisi, CIA Director discuss Africa, Middle East crises

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and CIA Director John Ratcliffe met in Cairo on Sunday to discuss the crises in Africa and the Middle East. In response to El-Sisi's affirmation of Egypt's backing for a comprehensive agreement to resolve the Iranian crisis, including the restoration of regional security and freedom of international navigation, Ratcliffe praised Egypt's role in promoting peace across the continent.

The President reiterated Egypt's commitment to the security and sovereignty of Arab nations, firmly rejecting any aggression against them. El-Sisi emphasized Egypt's contributions to the Sudanese crisis framework, aimed at ending the conflict, alleviating suffering, and achieving a political resolution. He stressed the importance of reinforcing security and stability in Somalia, rejecting any infringement on its sovereignty or territorial integrity.

Ratcliffe commended Egypt's role in securing a ceasefire in Gaza, highlighting the potential for enhanced cooperation between the United States and Egypt to bolster Middle Eastern stability. During their meeting, Ratcliffe lauded the partnership between the CIA and the Egyptian General Intelligence Service, signaling a new level of collaboration in intelligence gathering, sharing, and assessment of regional and international issues.

Both leaders acknowledged Egypt's longstanding strategic and military alliances with Western allies, particularly the United States, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Ratcliffe's visit to Cairo followed a recent encounter with Russian counterparts, reflecting Egypt's complex diplomatic relations dating back to 1943.
