Dubai announces 10-day mourning period after death of Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid

Dubai has initiated a ten-day mourning period following the death of Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, as announced by the Dubai Media Office on Monday. Sheikh Ahmed, the brother of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, who serves as the Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, expressed his grief in a prayer to God, stating that although he is absent from their sight, his memory remains in their prayers and hearts.

The Ruler of Dubai further paid tribute to his brother, requesting that God grant him a place in Paradise and provide comfort to the family and their loved ones during this difficult time.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, the Crown Prince of Dubai, also expressed his sorrow over the loss of a family member. He stated that while they are saying farewell to a dear one, they do so with faith in God's decree and destiny.

During the official mourning period, flags across Dubai will be flown at half-mast, signifying respect for the deceased. The mourning period is a customary observance when a member of an emirate's ruling family passes away. In the United Arab Emirates, such events typically lead to flags flying at half-mast, work in ministries, departments, and local government organizations potentially being suspended for three days, and state radio stations broadcasting classical music instead of regular entertainment programs.

State-owned television stations follow a similar pattern, with most live entertainment events being canceled, and official gatherings often postponed during the period. The mourning period serves as a mark of respect, casting a more somber tone across the UAE.
