Detention of PTI activists continues in Sahiwal

Sahiwal: In a recent development, Farid Town police apprehended Asad Khan Baloch, a former mayor of the municipal corporation and a ticket holder for Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), along with Muhammad Shahid Chohan, the City President of PTI, on Saturday night. The two suspects were later transferred to Sahiwal Central Prison, with Baloch remaining under Farid Town police custody at the time of this report.

The district administration also put a halt on the operations of two petrol pumps situated along Old GT Road, owned by the detained leaders. Police revealed that the arrests were made with regard to the preparations for events announced by PTI’s founding chairman, signaling their release on September 27.

Authorities also attempted to apprehend PTI activist Naveed Aslam, but he managed to escape the arrest. In an effort to quash the unrest, a gym in the city center was sealed. Sources further stated that 40 PTI workers, office-bearers, and activists had already been detained and sent to the Central Prison for a term of 30 days, under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO), as per orders issued by the Deputy Commissioner, Sahiwal. These arrests were made across both Sahiwal and Chichawatni tehsils.

With the latest arrests, the total number of PTI activists and office-bearers sent to Sahiwal Central Prison has reached 47.
