DBRC held livelihood support programme for waste and hair pickers in Vijayawada

The Dalit Bahujan Resource Centre (DBRC) organized a special livelihood support programme for waste and hair pickers in Vijayawada on September 21, 2026. The main objective of the event was to bolster the income-generating opportunities and economic security of these marginalized workers. The DBRC distributed essential resources worth around ₹3.20 lakh to 40 waste pickers and hair pickers.

These resources included four-wheeler push carts, aluminium utensils, material for vending sarees, and spice vending carts. The event was attended by NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha and Swachh Andhra Corporation chairman K. Pattabhiram, who both appreciated the significant contribution of waste pickers in maintaining cleanliness in urban and rural areas.

Mr. Pattabhiram emphasized the necessity for collaborative efforts among the government, Swachh Andhra Corporation, and civil society organizations to improve the welfare of people engaged in these livelihoods. Ch. Samuel Anil Kumar, Deputy Director, Programmes at DBRC, and other officials participated in the programme.
