Construction Date Announced for Another Underpass in Islamabad

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) in Islamabad is set to commence construction on a new underpass at Kashmir Chowk, with ground-breaking planned for after September 27. According to a CDA official, the authority has accepted a bid for the project, with preparatory work already under way. The contract was awarded to Habib Construction Services (HCS), whose bid came in at Rs. 1.45 billion, slightly below the estimated cost of Rs. 1.486 billion.

Workers have already begun clearing and grubbing the site, while the CDA is also arranging traffic diversions and utility service relocations in preparation for the formal construction. Despite the bidding documents specifying a 90-day completion period, sources suggest that CDA anticipates HCS to complete the project within two months, utilizing a fast-track plan.

The underpass will be constructed at Kashmir Chowk on Murree Road, also referred to as Dhokri Chowk, situated near the Islamabad Club. Vehicles traveling toward Rawalpindi from the Serena side will utilize this underpass, while those heading towards Murree will do so via its roof. The project was conceptualized by NESPAK's Lahore team.

Officials from the CDA emphasized their commitment to adhering to the approved budget and avoiding any unnecessary alterations that could potentially escalate costs.
