Conservatives criticized over appointment of candidate to run in Ontario byelection

Conservatives come under fire for appointing Brantford Mayor Kevin Davis as their candidate in the upcoming Ontario byelection, rather than allowing a nomination contest. Party leader Pierre Poilievre announced on Sunday that Davis would represent Brantford-Brant South, despite Larry Brock's return to Crown prosecutor duties and Brock's endorsement of local pastor Dave Carrol.

Carrol expressed disappointment over the decision, noting he had also received support from former MP Phil McColeman. The Conservative party defended its choice, stating they aimed to have a prepared candidate and that Davis received widespread support at Poilievre's rally on Sunday.
