Ulhasnagar Woman Dies After Electric Shock From CCTV Pole During Ganpati Visit, Contractor Booked

A tragic incident unfolded in Ulhasnagar on September 18, 2023, claiming the life of 26-year-old Karishma Madhavani. The unfortunate event occurred near Ganesh Ganga Apartment in Camp No. 3's OT Section, as she journeyed to pay her respects at a Ganpati pandal. Karishma's death resulted from a severe electric shock caused by contact with a faulty CCTV camera pole.

The Central Police registered a case against the contractor company responsible for the maintenance of Ulhasnagar's CCTV infrastructure following the incident. Police Sub-Inspector Sangram Malkar is leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the woman's untimely demise. The police are examining various factors, including whether the electric current reached the pole due to negligence in installation, maintenance, or upkeep.

They are also checking if the necessary safety measures were in place and if the pole had previously experienced any electrical faults.

Karishma's family alleges that the contractor failed to conduct timely inspections and maintenance of the electrical arrangements attached to the pole. During the rainy season, there were no warning signs, barricades, or precautionary measures installed around the pole to warn pedestrians of potential electrical hazards. The family's allegations will be part of the ongoing police investigation, which aims to determine whether negligence played a role in the incident.

The tragedy has left the Madhavani family devastated, and the Ulhasnagar community mourns the loss of a young life cut short during the Ganpati festival.
