Colts news: Indianapolis gets major Alec Pierce injury update amid SNF vs. Chiefs

The Indianapolis Colts were relieved to learn early Sunday night that wide receiver Alec Pierce escaped injury during their Week 2 contest against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium. Pierce suffered a left heel injury while making a non-contact move in the first half, hopping off the turf and being examined in the medical tent before being taken to the locker room on a cart.

Initial X-rays came back negative, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. Further evaluations and imaging are scheduled for Monday to assess the full extent of the damage. This incident is particularly concerning as Pierce had undergone offseason surgery on the same left ankle and heel area earlier this year, which had delayed his return to full participation.

The Colts, preparing for their Week 3 AFC South matchup against Houston, will await Monday's tests to determine if Pierce avoided a more serious soft-tissue issue. Pierce has been a key contributor for Indianapolis, leading the league in receiving yards in 2024 with 824, and breaking out with 1,003 yards and six touchdowns in 2025.

He averaged 22.3 yards per catch in 2024 and posted a 21.3-yard average in 2025. Pierce's injury leaves the Colts in a position where Daniel Jones might have to rely more on Josh Downs, Keenan Allen, and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine.
