Colt Keith injury update: INF Jace Jung gets callup from Tigers

Detroit Tigers have recalled infielder Jace Jung and pitcher River Ryan for the final week of the 2026 season. Jung and Ryan were brought up from Triple-A Toledo to replace Colt Keith and Troy Melton, who were placed on the 10-day and 15-day injured lists respectively. Keith was injured with a left thumb sprain, while Melton reported general tightness and soreness in his right forearm after his start against the Chicago White Sox on Sunday.

Ryan, a 28-year-old pitcher, made his Tigers debut on Monday, having joined the organization as part of a trade deadline deal with the LA Dodgers. Ryan, an 11th-round pick in 2021, has thrown 4⅔ innings with Toledo since returning from a hamstring injury. Tigers manager A.J. Hinch expects Ryan to focus on throwing quality strikes and getting outs, stating that getting through the emotional aspect of his return will be key.

Jung, the Tigers' first-round pick in 2022, has spent most of the season in Triple-A but has hit .227 with 22 home runs and 86 RBIs in 475 at-bats with Toledo this season.
