CEC decision for Loke to resign must be respected, says Hannah

DAP's central executive committee (CEC) has decided that only secretary-general Loke Siew Fook should resign as minister following the conditional pardon granted to Najib Razak, says Hannah Yeoh, the deputy secretary-general of the DAP CEC. During a meeting on Saturday, the committee heard various proposals and views before making this decision, Bernama reported.

While the other discussions at the CEC deliberations are confidential, Yeoh emphasized the importance of respecting the committee's final decision. She attended the 2026 Deepavali Bazaar in Putrajaya today. Lawyer Haniff Khatri Abdulla has criticized DAP's decision, stating that all DAP Cabinet members should resign if the party was genuinely committed to its stance on the matter.

This would not equate to withdrawing support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, as DAP MPs could still back him in Parliament. Loke stated he would resign as transport minister, but DAP would remain in the government with other ministers staying in the Cabinet. Haniff also pointed out that housing and local government minister Nga Kor Ming should have been among the first to resign due to his earlier public remarks on Najib's pardon.

Nga had vowed to resign if Najib was released, in response to Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh urging him to fulfill his promise to step down.
