The Dutch striker joins a select group of only four players to achieve the feat against a top-of-the-table opponent, according to Opta. Robbie Fowler, Dirk Kuyt, and Romelu Lukaku are the others to have done so, with Fowler accomplishing the task in 1998, Kuyt in 2011, and Lukaku in 2013.

Brobbey's treble came as Sunderland fought back from behind twice, with his third goal reducing the gap to just one goal. However, Erling Haaland sealed the match with a late goal, preserving City's perfect start to the season. Brobbey's hat-trick also marked Sunderland history, as he becomes the first player in club history to score a Premier League hat-trick in a match they ultimately lost.
