Apple Likely To Launch Siri AI Smart Home Hub With A Screen Next Month

Apple is reportedly set to unveil a new personal AI hub, featuring a screen and powered by Siri, next month. Analyst Mark Gurman suggests the device, internally known as J490, is geared towards unifying smart-home controls, video calling, intercom features and media playback.

The hardware specs of the device are still under wraps, but it's expected to have a square display, either stand-mounted or wall-mounted. The interface is described as a blend of iOS, tvOS and watchOS elements. Interestingly, the hub might use facial recognition via the front camera to identify users and display personalized content such as apps, notes, calendar entries, news and media.

Siri's revamped AI capabilities, launched with iOS 27, are said to be the driving force behind the development of this new hub. This could allow the hub to handle cross-device lookups, media requests and complex tasks within apps directly. The report highlights that this strategic move comes at a time when OpenAI is preparing its AI-first computer, and Apple has no major hardware product to counter it.

Apple's decision to develop this hub might be a response to the technological trend set by OpenAI and a move to maintain its competitive edge in the market. Despite laying off employees working on Fitness+, Apple plans to continue releasing audio content. The company is also reportedly considering folding Fitness+ into its revamped Health app, which is set to include instructional video content.
