Abu Dhabi court secures Dh7.8 million owed to 948 workers in labour disputes

The Abu Dhabi Labour Court successfully recovered Dh7.8 million ($2.1 million) for 948 workers in three resolved labour disputes. Out of a total of Dh12.3 million in claims, payments were made through judicial deposits and direct settlements. The court collaborated with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation to secure full payments for 457 workers, while 491 workers received partial payments through structured instalment plans.

This outcome demonstrates the court's commitment to swiftly resolving labour disputes and protecting workers' rights. In the first half of the year, the ministry handled 185,793 labour disputes, with 98.6% of them resolved amicably. Only 2,481 cases were referred to the judiciary for further action. The high resolution rate is due to the ministry's authority to adjudicate disputes up to Dh50,000, reducing the burden on local courts and enabling claimants to receive their entitlements faster.

The Wage Protection System plays a crucial role in preventing labour disputes by monitoring employers' compliance with wage-payment requirements. Employers and employees can access the system through the Labour Claims and Advisory Call Centre or online platform.
