2 militants arrested in Manipur

Imphal, two militants belonging to a banned outfit have been arrested in Manipur for alleged involvement in extortion activities, police announced on Monday. The two individuals, aged 45 and 46, were apprehended on Sunday from Imphal West and Imphal East districts respectively. One of the arrested militants was found with a 9 mm pistol and a loaded magazine during the arrest.

Additionally, a combined team of state police commandos and Assam Rifles seized a cache of weapons, including nine 9 mm pistols, a locally made gun, two single-barrel guns, and a grenade, from villages under Lamsang Police Station limits in Imphal West district. The Bishnupur district police intercepted a car carrying contraband during a routine check, recovering four packets of brown sugar worth an estimated 2.1 kg.

Ethnic violence between Meitei and Kuki communities in Manipur has resulted in at least 306 deaths and 49 missing persons since it began three years ago in May 2023.
