Woman killed, son injured in crash at Selangau-Mukah junction in Sarawak

Selangau, September 20 — A tragic accident occurred at the Selangau-Mukah junction flyover in Sarawak, resulting in the death of a 41-year-old woman, Patricia Gula Lumun, and injury to her 19-year-old son. The incident took place around 5pm, when the woman's car was involved in a collision. Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department's Zone 4 Sibu chief, Andy Alie, reported that the Bomba fire station received an urgent call at 5.01pm and reached the scene within three minutes.

Upon arrival, they found the woman trapped inside the vehicle, while her son had managed to free himself before the arrival of the firefighters. The male victim was promptly taken to the hospital for medical attention, while the mother remained inside the vehicle. Bomba personnel utilized specialized rescue equipment to extricate the woman from the wreckage.

Fortunately, she was successfully removed from the car, but tragically succumbed to her injuries at the scene. She was subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation. Seven firefighters from the Selangau fire station, led by Senior Officer I Nurfaiz Abdullah, participated in the rescue operation, which concluded at 5.40pm.
