The grieving parents recounted the moments leading up to their son's death, describing how they held him in their arms as family, kissed him, and told him how much they loved him.

Avery, known for his Pokémon card content, had recently started sharing photos and videos on social media under the name "Avery the Poke Kid." He had been diagnosed with pancreatoblastoma, a rare malignant tumor, nearly eight years ago, and had undergone numerous surgeries and treatments throughout his illness. In the days before his death, Avery's parents announced that he had entered hospice care for the third time, choosing to be together as a family and cherish every moment they had. The parents launched a GoFundMe to help cover the costs of his treatment.
