West Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari Withdraws All Cases Against Kurmis, Announces Rs 1 Lakh Crore Purulia Investment

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari of West Bengal withdrew all the cases against the Kurmi community brought by the previous Trinamool Congress (TMC) government during their rule, following a demonstration in Purulia. During a visit to the Karam festival in Purulia, Adhikari pledged to boost development in the region, which had been marginalized by the previous government.

He stated that the TMC administration had intentionally sought to divide the Kurmi community, preventing them from uniting. Adhikari announced that a staggering Rs 1 lakh crore in investments would be made in Purulia within a single year. He also laid the foundation stone for a Rs 4,000 crore integrated steel manufacturing plant at Raghunathpur in Purulia, with further investments planned across various sectors.

The Chief Minister also disclosed that the state government has earmarked Rs 50 crore to uplift the Kurmi community in 2022. He revealed that the defunct Kurmi Development Board would soon be revived and the community would be excluded from the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). Adhikari further announced that the Kurmali language would be recognized and included in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.

An airport under the UDAN scheme would be constructed in Purulia, with the agreement scheduled to be signed on September 28.
