Volvo Cars names Klaus Zellmer as next CEO

Volvo Cars has appointed Klaus Zellmer as its next president and chief executive officer, set to begin the role by October 1, 2027, according to the company. Zellmer will succeed Hakan Samuelsson, who recently announced he will not work full-time after his contract ends in April 2026. Samuelsson has been re-appointed to revitalize the automaker's performance.

At a recent strategy day, Samuelsson unveiled plans to launch 13 new models by 2030, with the goal of doubling the company's market share amidst challenges such as U.S. tariffs and dwindling sales in China. Volvo Cars, a majority-owned Swedish automaker by China's Geely Holding, has struggled to meet profitability targets due to tariffs, reduced electric vehicle demand, and high development costs.
