Volta Region described as cleanest so far in Parliament’s nationwide sanitation monitoring

The Volta Region has been lauded as the cleanest so far in Parliament’s nationwide sanitation monitoring, according to the Chairman of the Select Committee on Sanitation and Water Resources, John Oti Bless. The Committee has been conducting assessments across various parts of the country, inspecting waste management practices and consulting with local stakeholders on how to address Ghana’s sanitation issues.

Mr. Oti Bless expressed his admiration for the sanitation conditions in the Volta Region, stating that it stands out as the cleanest among the areas they have visited. The Committee’s tour aims to provide Parliament with a comprehensive view of the country’s sanitation situation and to motivate local authorities and residents to enhance their waste management practices.

The Committee plans to continue its inspections in other regions, including Central and Western Regions, Bono and Bono East, Ashanti, and the Eastern Region, over the next two weeks. In addition to monitoring, the Committee is advocating for increased public education on responsible waste disposal, emphasizing the importance of residents understanding the repercussions of improper disposal and their role in maintaining cleanliness.

The Committee also seeks greater backing from the media to sustain public awareness and keep sanitation concerns at the forefront of national discourse. The Committee believes that sustained cooperation among the government, local authorities, private-sector waste operators, the media, and residents will be crucial in improving sanitation and achieving cleaner communities across Ghana.
