Trump Seeks New Czar to Lead ‘AI Force’

President Donald Trump plans to appoint an artificial intelligence czar to oversee an agency akin to the Space Force. In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump stated, "We will not in any way hinder or stifle the Growth of this incredible Industry." He emphasized that AI is the next Industrial Revolution, potentially contributing up to 25% of the nation's GDP.

Despite industry leaders' warnings about safety concerns, Trump dismissed these fears. The announcement of the AI czar's appointment is expected soon. Previously, Trump named David Sacks as the White House's AI and cryptocurrency czar, though he has since stepped down. Sacks, however, remains a co-chair of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.

Last week, PYMNTS reported on Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, who called for a slowdown in AI development, a proposal supported by figures like Elon Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. Amodei's stance was echoed by PYMNTS CEO Karen Webster, who argued that strict rules could disadvantage industry leaders. Webster contended that the labs possess the necessary resources and knowledge to manage their models effectively.

Meanwhile, Chris Selland, an entrepreneur, anticipates a natural slowdown in AI development as the market can absorb the technology. Selland dismissed concerns about recursive self-improvement, describing it as hyperbolic.
