ICC chairman Jay Shah expressed his congratulations to Indian cricket opener Smriti Mandhana following her historic achievement of becoming the leading run-scorer in women's T20I cricket at the Asian Games in Japan. Shah praised Mandhana's accomplishment, stating that by surpassing this milestone, she is elevating women's cricket to new heights and setting a standard for young aspiring cricketers worldwide.

He looked forward to witnessing more such milestones in the future. The congratulatory message was posted on the social media platform X. Mandhana etched her name in the record books during India's women's cricket semi-final match against Bangladesh on Sunday. She surpassed New Zealand legend Suzie Bates' tally of 4,758 runs by scoring a rapid 19-ball 37, which included five fours and two sixes, surpassing Bates in the women's T20I run charts.

This tally was achieved along with a 72-run opening partnership with fellow Indian batter Shafali Verma.
