Team Ghana set for historic Karting Africa Showrun in Angola

Ghana is set to make its debut on the world motorsport scene as it fields a team of three drivers at the Karting Africa Showrun in Angola later this year. The team, organized by Auto Racing Ghana (ARG), will depart for Benguela on 10 and 11 October 2026. ARG president Samuel Moses Opoku-Agyemang met with National Sports Authority (NSA) Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah in Accra to extend an invitation.

Senior driver Jihad Armand, who trained at the WORR Motorsport academy in South Africa, will be supported by younger drivers Khloé Kusi-Asomah, 11, and Ezra Stephens, 9. The Karting Africa Showrun will host 39 drivers from across the continent and is expected to draw senior officials from the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and national motorsport bodies from across Africa.

The event will also act as a preview for the Karting Africa Cup, which is planned to span five African nations in 2027. NSA director-general Ampofo Ankrah expressed admiration for the team's preparation despite resource limitations and pledged NSA support once ARG finalizes its registration. ARG aims to develop FIA-standard racing tracks in Ghana to bolster karting, road car clubs, and driver growth.

The federation's STEM Racing Ghana initiative seeks to engage over 100 schools and 10,000 students through motorsport. ARG also intends to leverage motorsport for road safety awareness, collaborating with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority, the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana Standards Authority, and the FIA. Ghana is slated to host the Karting Africa Showrun again in 2027.

The team's journey to Angola is being funded by Engineers & Planners, with additional support from Imperial General Assurance, ASKY Airlines, and Starbites.
