Murkomen unveils Ksh63M prize pool for Mashujaa sports tournament

Kenya's Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Kipchumba Murkomen, has refuted doping allegations against the country's bid to host the 2029 World Athletics Championships. Murkomen asserted that the government remains transparent in combating doping and that the accusations lack credibility. He emphasized Kenya's commitment to maintaining a rigorous approach to doping prevention, stating that the government has taken decisive action against pharmacists involved in doping activities.

The CS made these remarks during the launch of the Mashujaa Day Sporting Tournament in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, which will encompass various sports, including football, volleyball, athletics, and basketball. The tournament, scheduled to begin on September 26th, aims to raise KSh 63 million in prize money for eligible participants.

Murkomen expressed confidence in the tournament's integrity and affirmed that only registered athletes will be allowed to compete, with an ICT system in place to detect any instances of cheating. He further emphasized that the organizing officials will not receive allowances from the prize money, further reinforcing the tournament's commitment to ethical conduct and resource management.
