Sheikh Hamdan expands Rashid Villages project to honour legacy of late brother

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, the Crown Prince of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister, has revealed plans to extend the Rashid Villages project to Zanzibar, honoring his late brother's humanitarian legacy. The initiative, launched on the 10th anniversary of Sheikh Rashid's death in 2019, aims to provide underprivileged families in Zanzibar with housing, education, healthcare, and social services while equipping them with the skills to secure better futures.

The new village in Zanzibar will feature furnished homes, a mosque, retail outlets, and a range of amenities to boost economic activity. Sustainable practices and renewable energy sources have been integrated into the village's design for long-term viability. Training programs will be established to assist residents in launching small businesses and generating income, enabling them to become self-reliant.

Sheikh Hamdan emphasized the spirit of his brother Rashid, who was committed to aiding others. He remembered his brother's generosity and dedication, stating that the Rashid Villages project would continue to uphold these values. Last year, the first Rashid Village was established in Kenya on a 72 dunum site, featuring 320 furnished homes, a school for 320 students, a digital learning center, and a healthcare facility.

The Supervisory Committee of Rashid Villages will oversee the implementation of the Zanzibar project, monitor progress at the first village in Kenya, and support the expansion of the program to additional communities.
