Sharjah establishes $1.6m humanitarian innovation centre in Indonesia

Sharjah's Deputy Ruler, Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, unveiled the "Jawaher Al Qasimi Humanitarian Innovation Centre" at Universitas Gadjah Mada in Indonesia. The centre aims to bridge academic knowledge, humanitarian expertise, and community needs to develop practical solutions. This initiative is a collaboration between The Big Heart Foundation, NAMA Women Advancement Establishment, and Universitas Gadjah Mada, with a combined budget of $1.6 million.

Sheikh Sultan emphasized that universities can significantly impact society by using their knowledge to serve people and address their needs. He highlighted Sharjah's commitment to education and culture, which aligns with the humanitarian efforts of Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi. The centre will focus on women's education and support postgraduate studies.

It aims to strengthen the connection between academic expertise and community needs to create sustainable solutions for humanitarian and development challenges in Indonesia, Southeast Asia, and beyond. Rector Dr. Ova Emilia of Universitas Gadjah Mada praised the partnership, stating that it represents a shared journey based on values, mutual respect, and a commitment to improving communities, especially those in need.
