Russian election enters final day after Ukraine targets Moscow in massive drone attack

MOSCOW — Ukraine launched a massive drone attack on Moscow on the final day of a parliamentary election, in a bid to disrupt the vote, the city's mayor claimed. The attack, described by Mayor Sergei Sobyanin as the biggest ever, did not succeed in its objective. Two people were killed in the Moscow region, and the city's oil refinery, previously targeted multiple times, was hit again, according to local authorities.

Reuters reporters heard explosions in Moscow and observed smoke emanating from the refinery. The extent of the damage to the facility remains unclear. Ukraine has not yet commented on the incident. Since the beginning of the conflict, more than 1,600 enemy drones have been shot down across all fronts, with 450 of them approaching Moscow, Sobyanin informed via Telegram.

One drone struck a residential building, but none of its occupants sustained injuries. This assault, which Sobyanin called unprecedented, was evidently intended to hinder the elections, the mayor stated.
