Russia: Ukrainian drone strike on Moscow kills 2

Two individuals were killed in a Ukrainian drone strike targeting the Moscow region on Sunday, according to local authorities. An oil refinery in the area was also hit by the attack. Despite a purported agreement to cease such targeting, both Russia and Ukraine have repeatedly struck each other's energy infrastructure. This has contributed to oil shortages and increased fuel prices in Russia.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy claimed the strike had a "very significant impact," stating that the oil in the damaged refinery funds billions of dollars to sustain the war effort. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin reported that over 1,600 Ukrainian drones were intercepted since Saturday, with 450 aimed at the Russian capital.

He noted that several drones reached the oil refinery, and another hit an apartment. The extent of the damage to the refinery remains unconfirmed. This incident occurred as Russia was in the final day of its three-day parliamentary election, with Sobyanin alleging the attack was specifically planned to disrupt the elections. In eastern Ukraine, Russian-occupied Kherson, a drone attack on a bus resulted in the deaths of two individuals, including an election official.

Ukraine also suffered a drone attack in the Kyiv region, killing four people, including a mother and her two 3-year-old children, as well as a girl who died later in a hospital. The southwestern Fastiv district sustained damage to homes and industrial buildings. Russia has conducted multiple drone attacks on Kyiv in recent weeks.
