Two killed in massive Ukrainian drone attack on Moscow region, Russia says

At least two people lost their lives and six sustained injuries in an extensive Ukrainian drone assault on the Moscow region, according to Governor Andrei Vorobyev. Vorobyev reported that 249 drones were shot down and noted fires in multiple residential houses, with a warehouse also ablaze. In the capital, Moscow, an oil refinery was damaged, and two airports imposed flight restrictions.

Meanwhile, a Ukrainian official claimed eight individuals, including three minors, were killed in Russian attacks in the Kyiv and Sumy regions on Saturday. Videos of explosions and a burning warehouse in the Moscow region have surfaced on social media, though their authenticity has not been confirmed by the BBC. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin stated that a drone struck a building near a boulevard and damaged an oil refinery facility, claiming that 450 drones en route to Moscow were neutralized in what he termed an "unprecedented attack."

Flight restrictions at both Moscow airports were later lifted, though some delays may persist. In Ukraine, a mother and her two young children were killed in the city of Fastiv, Kyiv regional head Tymur Tkachenko reported, with several homes damaged. Additionally, a child injured in a separate attack in Vyshhorod, north of Kyiv, succumbed to injuries in the hospital.

Both Russia and Ukraine have escalated their strikes, targeting energy facilities and logistics hubs, despite US President Donald Trump's recent social media claim of a mutual agreement to refrain from such actions. On Friday, Trump signed a sanctions bill targeting Russia's economy by imposing 100% tariffs on major purchasers of Russian oil and gas, including China and India.
