Rangers starter Cal Quantrill leaves after throwing 12 pitches because of right lat tightness

Texas Rangers' starting pitcher Cal Quantrill had to leave Saturday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays after just four pitches due to tightness in his right lat. Quantrill, who threw his 12th pitch, faced George Springer who grounded out to shortstop to start the Blue Jays' second inning. The 31-year-old right-hander, son of former Blue Jays All-Star Paul Quantrill, was examined by manager Skip Schumaker, pitching coach Jordan Tiegs, and head trainer Matt Lucero before exiting the mound.

Quantrill's previous start saw him leave after six innings and 70 pitches at Arizona on Sunday with back soreness. This marks Quantrill's first time attempting four consecutive starts since graduating from the minor leagues to become a Rangers starter in late June.
