PAS guna isu Najib dekati Umno, penganalisis beza pandangan

On September 18th last year, former Prime Minister Najib Razak was granted conditional pardon to serve the remainder of his prison sentence in his home. This development has sparked differing interpretations among analysts regarding its impact on relations between PAS and Umno. Syaza Shukri, a professor from Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIAM), views this stance as an effort by PAS to persuade Umno's leaders and supporters of their genuine commitment to working together.

In contrast, Felo Majlis Profesor Negara, Azmi Hassan, perceives support for Najib as primarily having political value for PAS, especially in garnering support from Umoh sympathizers. Syaza notes that the Najib issue may not be the primary concern for PAS, but it is significant enough to be frequently raised in major party gatherings.

"For me, this Najib issue is not a very important issue for PAS, whether among supporters or party leaders. Moreover, PAS has campaigned on the principle of 'cleanliness'. However, due to its importance for Umno and its frequent mention in every PAU, it could serve as a means to strengthen the ties between the two parties," he told FMT.

Syaza also highlights the challenge of building trust between the two parties, as both recognize the need for cooperation but remain skeptical of each other. "This is an attempt to strengthen relations while the constituency meetings are still ongoing, particularly in Melaka," he said. Azmi Hassan, however, does not see PAS's statement on Najib as a factor that could significantly strengthen cooperation between the two parties.

He believes that PAS's stance could provide political benefits to PAS by appealing to the sympathies of Umoh voters or supporters. "PAS sees this as a political advantage they can gain from Umoh voters or supporters. In this case, I do not see the recent statement from PAS's Chief Secretary, Takiyuddin Hassan, facilitating smoother cooperation.

No," he said. Azmi suggests that while PAS's support for Najib might help in relations between the two parties, it is not the main issue in their cooperation discussions. "It might be said to facilitate cooperation, but I am sure that in the discussions of cooperation between the two parties, Najib will not be the main topic. What will emerge is the issue of the most important constituency distribution formula," he said.

On September 18th, PAS welcomed Najib's conditional pardon, viewing it as a significant development for his family and the people of Malaysia. Takiyuddin Hassan, in a statement, expressed gratitude and praised the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim for his decision. He also mentioned that Najib, as a former Umoh president, can still contribute ideas, perspectives, and experiences for the good of the nation.
