Obi’s Scrutiny Challenge Should Apply to Other Candidates

The Peter Obi Media Office has criticized what it perceives as inconsistent scrutiny of presidential candidates ahead of the 2027 general election. Spokesman Idris Zekeri Jnr stated that while the media office supports scrutiny of all candidates, every presidential candidate should be assessed under the same rigorous standards. Obi has been praised for his transparency, often challenging Nigerians to scrutinize him and publicly identify any wrongdoing.

He has requested the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), and West African Examination Council (WAEC) to release his academic records upon legitimate request. However, his office claims that other political figures, often referred to as traditional or establishment candidates, receive more lenient treatment in the media.

They suggest that the past scandals, policy failures, corruption allegations, and transparency concerns of these candidates are often excused as political compromises. Therefore, while Obi's past decisions and allegations are under intense scrutiny, the media office argues that the records of other political figures should receive equal and robust examination.
