Mourinho prints out ‘red card’ incidents after Real lose derby

Jose Mourinho arrived at the Real Madrid press conference with a printed A4 sheet of screenshots, alleging two key incidents should have led to Atletico Madrid players receiving red cards. The Real Madrid manager claimed his team had been reduced to 11 players, highlighting the impact of these decisions on the outcome of the match.

Mourinho's first concern was a clash between Jude Bellingham and Cristian Romero, which resulted in Bellingham receiving a yellow card; this was later overturned via video assistant referee review. The second incident involved Lee Kang-in of Atletico Madrid challenging Fede Valverde, a challenge Mourinho believed warranted a straight red card.

Mourinho emphasized the potential consequences of such a red card, comparing the difficulty of continuing the game with 11 players to playing with nine. Despite the loss, Mourinho praised his players' commitment and performance, particularly in the first half. Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone, however, was pleased with the result and denied that the match would be overshadowed by the refereeing controversy.

He claimed his team had controlled the game throughout, citing their teamwork, defensive organization, and collective effort. La Liga is set to resume on Friday, 9 October following the international break.
