Moscow targeted by ‘largest ever’ drone attack on final day of Russia’s parliamentary election

In the final day of Russia's parliamentary elections, Moscow was targeted by what its mayor described as the "largest ever" drone attack. More than 1,000 drones were launched, resulting in the deaths of at least two individuals and causing significant damage to an oil refinery. Mayor Sergei Sobyanin blamed Ukraine for the attack, stating it was "clearly planned with the aim of disrupting the elections."

Although the enemy did not succeed in their goal, the Kremlin's United Russia party is expected to secure a victory in the elections, given the absence of any credible opposition. Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky acknowledged the attack in a statement on Telegram, though he did not specifically reference the election. Ukrainian officials claimed that the primary target was the Gazpromneft-Moscow Oil Refinery, a major facility in the country.

The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that 1,110 Ukrainian drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles were intercepted and neutralized during the attack, which occurred as part of the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.
