Memorial lecture honours Dr Hlahla, pledges R1m bursaries

A businessman has pledged a million rand in bursaries to learners in Mahwelereng township near Mokopane in Limpopo, in honor of the late Dr Tshehla Hlahla. Dr Hlahla, a renowned medical doctor and anti-apartheid activist, was remembered during the first memorial lecture held in the township. Known as the "people's doctor," Hlahla spent 43 years providing free medical services to poor and disadvantaged communities in Limpopo.

Businessman Malose Kekana, who made the pledge, stated that Dr Hlahla was more than just a doctor, dedicating his life to serving his community. Kekana also plans to work with the foundation to mobilize resources to ensure that children in the community have a safe place to play by 2028. Dr Hlahla himself emphasized that charity begins at home and that their community is called to use their resources to give hope and lift others as they rise, providing strength for their communities.
