JI launches 'train march' towards Islamabad against petroleum levy

The Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) commenced its protest march toward Islamabad on Sunday, with party leader Hafiz Naeemur Rehman cautioning that a failure to abrogate the petroleum levy could escalate the demonstration into a call for government removal. Addressing supporters at Karachi's Cantonment Station prior to departing for Islamabad, Naeem outlined the rally's anticipated path through Hyderabad, Landhi, Nawabshah, Rohri, and Sukkur, adding, "We will invite our sisters to join us once we reach Islamabad."

JI aims to unite politics and the nation, describing the protest as a "revolutionary struggle." Naeem stated that the march's objective is to alleviate the burden on the most disadvantaged, highlighting that individuals unable to seek assistance from others are enduring hardship. He criticized the government's decision to impose the levy, asserting that it should be lifted, as it would rapidly decrease petrol prices to approximately Rs200 per liter, thereby promoting economic progress.

The JI has been organizing nationwide protests against the fuel levy, which exceeds Rs100 per liter. The party announced via X that the "train march," spearheaded by Rehman from Karachi, would arrive in Rohri and Sukkur to hold a rally at 8 PM. Protests are expected to continue, with the group departing for Multan on Monday. More updates to follow.
