Iran says Hormuz will not reopen until US honours June agreement

Iran’s parliament speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, announced on Sunday that the Strait of Hormuz will not reopen until the United States adheres to its commitments under a June agreement and meets Tehran’s conditions. In a statement from parliament, Ghalibaf mentioned that Iran had "explicitly conveyed its conditions to the opposing side through intermediaries", according to Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB.

Reuters reported earlier that Tehran has connected the reopening of the strait to US commitments outlined in the June memorandum, which include lifting the blockade of Iranian ports, ending oil sanctions, and addressing other measures. Ghalibaf emphasized that the US is aware that "the path of deception and unilateral imposition is closed", and stated that there would be no return to negotiations or the reopening of the waterway until Iran’s rights are recognized and US commitments are fulfilled.

The Strait of Hormuz is a crucial route for global oil and gas shipments, and traffic through the waterway has remained significantly below pre-war levels due to ongoing tensions.
