The Malaysian Prison Department is awaiting official confirmation before implementing the house arrest of former Prime Minister Najib Razak, reports state. PETALING JAYA: Malaysia's Prison Department is still awaiting written confirmation of the conditional pardon for former Prime Minister Najib Razak before taking any further action.

The confirmation and related documents from the Federal Territories' Reparation Board (LPWP) will be communicated through official channels before being presented to the Prison Department for subsequent action. "In this regard, consistent with Minister of Internal Affairs statement on 19 Sept 2026, both the Prison Department and Malaysia's Prison Department are still awaiting the written confirmation regarding this decision before any further action for the implementation of the relevant decision can be determined," they said in a statement.

On Sept 18, LPWP authorized Najib to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to a RM50 million fine and compliance with set conditions. Meanwhile, the Prison Department said their department is always ready to implement official directives received from relevant authorities. They added that the implementation will be carried out in accordance with legal provisions, prison regulations, and standard procedures and processes in force.

"The department will implement any decision and directive received in a regular, professional, and integrity manner, in accordance with legal provisions and the relevant authority's requirements," they said. The Prison Department also urged all parties to rely on official sources and refrain from speculating about the implementation of the relevant decision.
