GB police foil terrorist attack on checkpost between Diamer, Ghizer districts

Gilgit-Baltistan police successfully prevented a terrorist attack on a checkpost situated between Diamer and Ghizer districts on Saturday. The assault involved approximately nine assailants who opened fire on a police patrol at the Sargah Nallah seasonal checkpoint, located near the Singal police station and bordering both Ghizer and Diamer districts.

Despite the attackers' attempt to flee due to the challenging mountainous terrain and their elevated position, all police officers remained unharmed during the gunfire. Following the incident, authorities are relocating the police party to a more secure location and deploying additional personnel and necessary resources. The GB police strongly denounces the "cowardly terrorist attack" and reaffirms its dedication to upholding law and order, safeguarding public safety, and combating terrorism.

They urge citizens to promptly report any suspicious individuals or activities to the authorities. In April, the GB police apprehended 15 suspects in a counter-terrorism operation, following a deadly ambush that left at least three officers dead and five injured near Thore Valley in Chilas. Earlier that month, the caretaker cabinet of Gilgit-Baltistan approved the renaming of the Counter-Terrorism Department to the Counter-Terrorism Unit and authorized the recruitment of 600 new officers to bolster law enforcement services.
