Fire Guts Gombe Media Corporation, Destroys Staff, NYSC Members’ Property

A fire has devastated sections of the Gombe Media Corporation (GMC) premises, resulting in the loss of property and personal belongings of staff and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members assigned to the organization. The disaster unfolded around 3:50pm on a Saturday, impacting the corporation's outdated television studio, maintenance area, radio library, News Director's office, and the dormitory housing NYSC personnel serving with GMC Radio and Television.

Emergency responders from both state and federal fire services arrived on the scene to combat the blaze.

Malam Ibrahim Isa, the corporation's Director-General, was present along with Isma'ila Uba Misilli, the Press Affairs Director for Gombe State. Other witnesses included GMC employees, sympathetic individuals, and members of the public. Although no fatalities were reported, several NYSC members, such as Farida Tahir, Esther Daniel, and Nasiru Joshua, suffered losses to their personal items, including laptops, sewing machines, and essential identification documents.

GMC television cameraman and News Department artist Irmiya Maiguwa also endured minor injuries while contributing to the fire containment and property protection efforts.

NYSC members expressed their disappointment over the incident and thanked God for escaping injury. Staff members of GMC called for enhanced fire safety measures and robust emergency response facilities to protect lives and assets within the organization.
