Dubai completes Oud Metha Road project in latest drive to combat congestion

Dubai has officially finished a major road expansion project aimed at reducing travel times on one of the emirate's busiest routes. The Oud Metha Road and Al Asayel Street initiative involved constructing four main junctions, four bridges, two tunnels, and an extra 14 kilometers of roadway to alleviate congestion and provide smoother commutes for numerous motorists.

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority revealed that this initiative will boost Oud Metha Road's capacity from 10,400 to 15,600 vehicles per hour, as well as aim to reduce average travel times from 20 minutes to merely five minutes. The Oud Metha and Al Asayel Street project, which is projected to serve 420,000 residents by 2030, is a part of the broader Sheikh Rashid Corridor Development Project, which aims to accommodate the needs of expanding communities in the city's historic core.

Mattar Al Tayer, the director general of the Roads and Transport Authority, previously emphasized the significance of the road upgrade plan, stating, "The project is among the pivotal infrastructure projects designed to improve Dubai’s road network, Mr Al Tayer stated in July. "The project caters to several service, residential, and development areas, notably Zabeel, Al Jaddaf, Oud Metha, and Umm Hurair, in addition to Latifa Hospital and Al Wasl Club."
