Maximilian Beier's 70th-minute goal secured Borussia Dortmund a 1-0 victory over Stuttgart, propelling the German team to the top of the early Bundesliga standings. This marked Dortmund's first ascent to the summit since May 2023, a span of 1,212 days after they squandered the title with a final-day home draw against Mainz. The win also represented Dortmund's first league win in four matches since 2014.

Despite missing out on Jurgen Klopp's expanded Germany squad, Beier handled the setback well, with coach Niko Kovac expressing happiness for the player. Dortmund's Bilal El Khannous had a near miss for Stuttgart early in the game, while Konstantinos Karetsas, who had been stretchered off earlier in the month due to a cardiovascular issue, returned to the bench just after halftime.

With 20 minutes remaining, the Greek teenager provided a precise pass to Jobe Bellingham, who then delivered a low cross for Beier to score the decisive goal. As Frankfurt lost their lead against Freiburg, a 2-2 draw at Eintracht Frankfurt earlier on Saturday allowed Dortmund to claim the top spot. Bayern Munich's 7-0 triumph over Union Berlin earlier in the week had already put them ahead of Freiburg, but the Black Forest side failed to mount an effective response, recording their first pointsless match in the league.
