Domestic LPG cylinder booking: Biometric Aadhaar Authentication mandatory for subsidy from October 1

Starting October 1, 2026, biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) will become a mandatory requirement for domestic LPG consumers who wish to purchase refills at the regulated selling price (RSP) along with the subsidy. The Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas announced that those who have already completed the authentication will not need to take any further steps. As of September 19, approximately 89.9% of active domestic LPG consumers, or 27.43 crore, had already completed the process.

Consumers yet to complete the BAA can do so through various methods. During LPG delivery, delivery personnel can complete the authentication using the OMC mobile application. Alternatively, consumers can visit their distributor's showroom or complete the authentication through the mobile app of their respective oil marketing company (OMC) such as IndianOil ONE for Indane customers, HelloBPCL for Bharatgas customers, HP PAY for HP Gas customers.

If a consumer does not complete the BAA, they will still receive LPG refills at the applicable market price without any subsidy. However, they will need to register their preference through the OMC's digital channels, including the consumer web portal, mobile app, WhatsApp chatbot, or IVRS. In such cases, LPG will be delivered in 5 kg or 10 kg cylinders, contingent on availability.

The authentication process is designed to ensure that subsidised LPG reaches genuine consumers, identify duplicate or ineligible connections, and prevent the diversion of subsidized domestic LPG cylinders for commercial or industrial use. The process is intended to neither deny LPG to genuine households nor create difficulties for them.
