Diana's brother compares media treatment of Harry, Meghan to late princess' ordeal

Prince Charles' brother, Earl Charles Spencer, drew a comparison between the media treatment of Prince Harry and his wife Meghan to that faced by his mother Princess Diana, in an interview published on Sunday. Spencer warned that valuable lessons needed to be learned from the period when Diana was relentlessly pursued by photographers and met a tragic end in a 1997 Paris car crash.

He noted that the media's details about her life were splashed across tabloid front pages for years, sparking an outpouring of grief and a later reckoning over the media's possible responsibility for her death. Spencer told the BBC that the media's portrayal of Diana and Harry and Meghan was "really, really unpleasant" and urged people to learn from Diana's example.
